2 LADIES DID A WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S TO STEAL MONEY FROM A DEAD MAN, WITH THE DEAD MAN, ATM EDITION
Quite frankly, I can’t believe how many years it’s been since I saw A Weekend At Bernie’s. Now I suppose I’ll have to revisit the film, both for nostalgia and for how amazing it is that fiction informs the actions of the foolish, if only eventually. Because that’s the only way I can figure out how to understand how 2 ladies could be arrested for propping up a dead man between them in order to withdraw money from his account at an ATM. No, really. 2 ladies carried a dead man between them to steal money from the deceased’s account.

THE 2 LADIES USED TO LIVE WITH DECEASED, AND SAW AN OPPORTUNITY FOR BEER MONEY WHEN HE DIED
The 2 ladies are Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, and Karen Casbohm, 63. They used to live with a man, now the deceased, Douglas Layman, in Ashtabula, Ohio. And yes, a man with the last name Layman used to live with 2 ladies. But Layman passed away a week ago, at home. And the 2 ladies, instead of properly mourning their former Layman liv-in, decided to make a macabre opportunity from his death. Get money from his account! It seems that in the past that the two were allowed to pull money from his account at the bank, so long as the tellers saw that Layman was with them.

WITH DEAD ROOMMATE PROPPED UP IN CAR, THE 2 LADIES CONNED A TELLER AT DRIVE-THRU ATM
So how do you have a dead man go with you to the bank? Why, you take him with you, that’s how. They put him in their car and proceeded to pull into the bank’s drive-thru, with Layman-as-Bernie propped up in the seat. And, well, it worked! The bank teller didn’t realize that the account holder in the car was dead, and forked over $900 to the two necrokleptiacs. But then these two brilliant criminals proceeded to drop Layman’s body off at the Ashtabula County Medical Center, “without providing any information about the man or themselves.” And that’s where the 2 ladies outed themselves.
Police later identified and arrested them after the corpse drop off and they face charges of theft and gross abuse of a corpse.
