THE YEAR 2024 (NOW!) IS THE YEAR THE WORST SEQUEL EVER WAS SET: HIGHLANDER 2
It’s hard dealing with the New Year every time it rolls around. Resolutions, hangovers, the brutal return to work and (maybe for you, too) your kids finally going back to school. And every year seems a little harder, 2024 being no exception at all. And then I made the realizatation that this now current year was waaaay off in the future in my mind’s eye back in the 1990’s, thanks to the (very bad) sequel to the movie Highlander: Highlander 2. That’s right. If you’re old enough to remember seeing this movie in the theater, we are now in the year that Connor McCloud was immortal (again).

HIGHLANDER 2 WAS SO BAD, YOU CAN’T EASILY FIND A CUT OF THE ORIGINAL TODAY (THANK GOD)
And here I thought 2001: A Space Odyssey was awkward. But I guess we had a bit of a distraction that year, eh? But Highlander 2 was bad. Really, really bad. The 90s is still known for a lot of sequels, especially sci-fi. Most of them left a lot of fans wanting. But Highlander 2 was one of the worst received and reviewed sequels of all time, sci-fi or no. So how bad was it? it was so bad, the only copy you can watch now is the director’s re-cut of the movie; the original is nowhere to be found. Unless, of course, you still have a functioning carbon copy n the form of VHS.

BUT IN REMEMBERING HIGHLANDER 2, LET’S FORGET FAST AND EAGERLY AWAIT REBOOT OF ORIGINAL
But as I remember to forget Highlander 2 all over again, and hopefully not for the entire 2024 year, it’s worth remembering (again?) that the original movie is now in re-boot mode, with Henry Cavill taking over the reigns from Christopher Lambert as Connor McCloud. And yes, I’m aware of the irony. Remembering a yet to be realized reboot from the unfortunate memory of the worst sequel (of all time?) because it was set in the current, now, year. I guess that’s what happens when you’re old enough to remember being an adult, sort of, back in the 1990s. It just hurts.
