Zuckerberg Fires 11,000 Staff, Spent $15B On Metaverse

MARK ZUCKERBERG FIRES 11,000 STAFF AFTER SPENDING $15 BILLION ON METAVERSE

I’m old, so I only really think of Facebook as Facebook.  Yes, I know that Facebook is now just one of several companies under the new top of the corporate pyramid top, Meta.  Besides Facebook, there’s WhatsApp, Instagram and Oculus VR.  So any staff working at any of them, really just work for Meta, or Mark Zuckerberg.  And that’s a damn shame for 13% of them, as Zuckerberg just fired them, to the tune of 11,000 people.  But don’t worry, he’s “taking responsibility” for making mistakes.  By firing them.  Oh, and after spending $15B on the disastrous Metaverse project.

THE METAVERSE ISN’T REAL YET, NO DEMAND, BUT MARK FIRES 11,000 FOR HIS MISTAKES

There were rumors of pending layoffs.  But they became real this past week, just as Zuckerberg explained the unreal rationale for why he needed to fire 11,000 people for his mistakes.  Did Zuckerberg take a pay cut?  No.  Did he spend $15B on a project that doesn’t have demand yet and is a total failure?  Yes.  Did he assume the increased revenue from people spending more money and time online from Covid would never end?  Yes.  And did he spend all that extra money stupidly, and use that as a rationale to fire 11,000 people?  YES.

A METAVERSE WILL HAPPEN, AND IT WILL BE HUGE, BUT LET’S ALL OWN IT INSTEAD OF ZUCKERBERG

But don’t worry.  Zuckerberg is taking the blame, saying “I got this wrong, and I take responsibility for that.”  Except, not at all.  Especially after spending $15 billion on the Metaverse, which now seems to be the entire point of the new company name, Meta.  The Metaverse is a yet to be realized VR space where people will hangout, do stuff and most importantly, spend money.  You’ve seen something like that in movies, like Ready Player One.  Or, you’ve read about it in cyberpunk novels, which is where Zuckerberg stole the term metaverse from.  And renamed his company after.

Yes, a metaverse in some form will transform and be the dominant form of the world economy in coming years.  But it’s just as well Zuckerberg doesn’t own it.  Well, not any more than he owns is own mistakes, anyway.  Not at all.
