Indiana Makes Ninja Stars Legal for Recreational Use

STATE OF INDIANA MAKES NINJA STARS, AKA THROWING STARS, AKA SHURIKEN, LEGAL FOR RECREATIONAL USE

Shuriken.  It’s a word I remember quite well from my younger days, when the onset of facial hair seemed to coincide with a fascination with the most dangerous weapons from human history.  Shuriken are throwing stars, or what you might better know as Ninja Stars.  They are literally razor blades that you can throw, except these razor blades have enough mass, and blade, to fly far, stick in and stick in hard.  I think I even owned one once in my early teens.  But it wasn’t razor sharp, though the points of the stars worked just fine.  Dangerous, in a word.  But adolescent fascination is now an adult fueled sport, and the state of Indiana just made them legal for recreational use.

THE LOGIC SEEMS TO BE IF YOU CAN THROW AXES DRUNK AT A BAR, WHY NOT NINJA STARS?

Well, almost legal, anyway.  Senate Bill 77 made its way thru the Indiana State Senate already.  Now it goes to the State House, where it seems set to sail thru to its target passage.  So why is this on the docket in Indiana, and why are these dangerous weapons from old Japanese history about to be a drunken sport pastime?  A constituent who owns a putt-putt golf course called Ninja Golf is the source of Senate Bill 77.  And, well, there is a certain login that’s hard to argue with.  The money quote that says it all is, “Hey, look, if we can throw axes, we can certainly throw throwing stars.”  So Ninja Golf seems set to also host Ninja Star throwing as well.

IF YOU THOUGHT A DART BOARD AT A BAR WAS DANGEROUS, JUST WAIT TILL NINJA STARS ARE FLYING AROUND

And hey, who can argue with that logic?  People already throw axes in bars, bowling alleys, and maybe even putt-putt golf courses.  For all I know, maybe you can even drink alcohol at the last as well.  And yes, if I had a few drinks and a buddy said let’s go over there and throw some Ninja Stars, who would I be to say no?  But there’s a reason two of America’s most populous states still have laws against them, New York and California.  It’s because unlike an axe, these things are small and easier to mishandle.  Just think about that time someone almost threw a dart at you in a bar, and then think how that could translate with a Ninja Star.

If you’re curious, just go to Indiana in a few weeks and find out!
