GETTING REAL ABOUT THE ALMOST HAPPENING 2024 NBA DRAFT WHERE NO ONE KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN

Ok, it’s time to get real. Because there’s too much surreal, mamby pamby media coverage as we seem to accelerate to the 2024 NBA Draft. It’s literally 2 days away from the time I post this non-puff piece. But first, I have to admit that I’m a Spurs fan, essentially since the Admiral’s rookie season. Well, summer league before rookie season. So I’m well-versed as a fan to never knowing what the hell my team of choice is going to do. The Spurs brain trust make sure to muddy the water. And if you’re an NBA team fan, you know something similar to my latent pain. But for you, I’m gonna guess that the logic often escapes you on NBA Draft night.

And to make matters seemingly worse this year, everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) is talking major garbage about how weak this year’s crop of players about to be drafted are. And I’m simply not sold on this lazy, bullshit sales pitch meme. Because it is. Bullshit. What it really means is NBA teams, their management and all the media personalities they leak to have no idea who’s the obvious choice for any team. For ANY team. And that’s a bit unusual, to say the least. That’s why it seems so hard for anyone to be “getting real” until things actually get real in 48 hours.

THE 2024 NBA DRAFT WILL HAVE FIREWORKS, WHICH WILL LIKELY LEAVE MANY FANS FEELING BLINDED

First off, there are going to be trades. Likely, a LOT of trades. We’re talking about multiple teams trading picks, picks and players, and maybe even sign-and-trade involving multiple teams and players. Some of these will happen (or simply finally be announced) as the draft happens live. And while fans like you are me are clearly already interested, this is when it could truly get interesting and real. Because just like us, the management of every NBA team also thinks they have a clue, with a certain biased logic. But if there’s one shocking deal that happens in the top 5 draft selections, it could cause a cascade effect, making for some real drama in a “weak” draft.

For me, I hear my Spurs have definite picks for both 4 and 8. I’ve read at least a dozen possible names that could happen. I’ve heard the Spurs trade one or both picks for other players, to swap for Pick 1 or 2, or even to completely retool all but 2-4 spots on the roster. You simply can’t discern truth from that! But I’ll be sure to tune and enjoy my Spurs drama. I just hope whatever drama your fandom gives doesn’t leave a sour taste at the end of the night. Now that’s getting real.
