ANDOVER, MASSACHUSETTS ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS RESPOND TO WRANGLE A TOY ALLIGATOR
Civic authorities get calls for help or reporting something they need to look into all the time. More often than not, that means something at least potentially dangerous. But then there are the other calls that are frivolous, or downright silly fun. And this story definitely qualifies as both frivolous and definitely silly fun. Animal Control officers in Andover, Massachusetts got a call reporting the sighting of an alligator at large at the Deer Jump Reservation. Calls of an alligator in the northeast aren’t all that common, but the three officers who arrived at the scene ended up wrangling a toy, not a real alligator.

ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS’ EXPECTANT EXCITEMENT QUICKLY TURNED INTO BELLY LAUGHS
When the three animal control officers first arrived, they started with meeting with the people who called them in reporting an alligator at the scene. The callers were too nervous to get very close to the erstwhile and presume predator. So the officers went closer to investigate, and their nervous professional excitement quickly turned into belly laughs when they realized they were there to wrangle a child’s toy, a rubber alligator with worn, green paint. As you can see above, the toy’s frozen position is with its mouth open in a threatening (for a toy, anyway) position.

SOMEONE HAD CLEVERLY CAMOUFLAGED THE TOY ALLIGATOR TO LOOK REAL AND SCARY
The officers said that “someone” had clearly placed the alligator with camouflage to make it look seemingly real. So much for this reported sighting of an alligator in the Andover, Massachusetts area for animal control! Amazingly, it’s not the first. But authorities put out a reminder to all visitors to keep their doge on short, 6’ leashes and to be vigilant for all wildlife in the area. And if you live down in Florida, that goes triple, with multiple reports of both people and pets being attacked by lurking alligators near waterlines.
