Guns Are Fine in Texas, But Protect Kids From Sex Toys?

A NEW TEXAS BILL WOULD OUTLAW SEX TOYS ON SALE IN WALMART, TO PROTECT KIDS?

Texas is a big state, second largest in the Union.  It has a decent population, too, which also means a decent (or indecent) number of elected officials to represent them.  And while Texas has made some inroads on becoming more politically purple, not all lawmakers seem to have gotten the memo, or to care.  For some, keeping the culture wars alive in the name of protecting kids while thumping a bible will never go out of style.  Because in Texas, protecting kids from guns means more guns.  But boy do we have to make sure they never see sex toys in a store!

THE BILL DOESN’T REFER TO SEX TOYS OR VIBRATORS, BUT TO “OBSCENE DEVICES”

So there’s a bill, of course, to facilitate this with penalties.  HB 1549 doesn’t refer to sex toys as such, or even vibrators.  But the bill does include all such under the category of “obscene devices.”  And if the bill is passed, it would make it illegal to sell them at vendors like Target, Walmart and CVS.  And if they still did, the vendors would face civil penalties as well as legal action from local counties.  But the bill wouldn’t affect adult businesses, like strip clubs or sex shops.  “Obscene devices” like sex toys seem to be ok there, for now.

KIDS’ “INNOCENCE” ISN’T REALLY AT STAKE AS LONG AS GUNS ARE ALWAYS OK TO BUY

But these culture warriors-cum-child protectors really aren’t fooling around with their moralizing.  They’re literally saying that banning sex toys from stores in Texas is necessary to prevent “compromising” the “innocence” of kids.  But it’s still perfectly fine for pretty much anyone to be able to buy both ammunition and guns at any Walmart in Texas.  Not to beat a dead horse, but guns “compromise” lives, in a final sense.  We’ll just have to see if this bill passes next year.  And for anyone who wants to be sure to buy any sex toys at one of these stores while they still can, take a careful count.

Because it’s still illegal to own more than 6 sex toys in the state of Texas.
