SPANISH AIRPORT AUTHORITIES WICKED PISSED OVER ABANDONED AIRPLANE, UNPAD FEES
Some people will go to great lengths not to pay their bills. Little bills, larger bills, sometimes even really big bills. So this time it’s about an abandoned airplane that’s just been sitting at the Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barajas airport. So how long has this thing been sitting there with more unpaid fees every single day? Year. That’s right, YEARS. But this isn’t like some little misunderstanding. Spaces for airplanes are a valuable commodity. So this airport is out some major moolah because of this listless fuselage with wings attached.

MYSTERY OWNER NEEDS TO STEP UP BEFORE PLANE IS UP FOR AUCTION
So who owns this abandoned McDonnell Douglas MD-87 airplane? No one knows. But airport officials are only getting angrier as they continue to try to find out. Sure, there are countless abandoned airplanes at “aviation graveyards” all over the world. But this is a working airport, not a random junkyard. So officials put an ad out in a local newspaper that if the owner doesn’t come forward, they’ll simply auction the plane off to the highest bidder. They can recoup at least some of their loss that way and get the space back.

But this will take three months to even sort of begin. Why? Spanish law says the airport has to put out these notices for three consecutive months. But then they have to wait another year for the owner to maybe finally appear and claim the damn thing! Then, and only then, will the airport be able to at last auction the abandoned plane off. But that is, of course, if the owner fails to appear. For 15 months. But here’s the thing. Depending on who the owner is, they may do better to stay hidden. Why? Because if they appear they’ll be on the hook for all the accrued fees for years of storage at the airport.
