AUSTRALIA SMOKING HOT WITH INSANE TEMPERATURES WREAKING HAVOC
Southern Australia has been feeling this heat the last few weeks. Sure, we’re having winter over here in the United States. But I’m not sure I’m jealous of this kind of heat, even with more snow headed my way soon. But last week the city of Melbourne had a temperature of 109.4 degrees Fahrenheit! That’s just out of control hot. I’ve been in the Texas and Mexico desert and know what 110 feels like. I wasn’t happy. But it was in the desert! Melbourne doesn’t get temperatures like that. At least, they didn’t used to. But that’s the kind of heat where things start smoking in the sun. No, really. That’s a heat wave like a tsunami.

HEAT WAVE KNOCKING OUT POWER, CAUSING UNCONTROLLABLE WILDFIRES
But this kind of heat makes a lot of problems. Fire, for one. The state of Tasmania was struggling for days with over “30 uncontrolled fires.” Try fighting a fire in general. It’s hot. Then try doing that in a heat wave. But let’s not forget the word, “uncontrolled.” So what else could go wrong in a heat wave? You guessed it, electrical blackouts. More than 200,000 people lost power in the state of Victoria for hours. When the power goes out, everything gets hotter. No A/C, no fans, no nothing.

ONE WILDFIRE SO POWERFUL IT’S SMOKE CREATED LIGHTNING, MORE FIRE
But that’s not all. Outlying areas saw temperatures as high as 116 degrees! And as for the wildfires, one in particular was pretty damn scary. A 10,000 acre fire in East Gippsland got so large on the hottest day that it’s smoke column was over 6 miles wide! But could that be scarier? Yup. That smoke column was so large and powerful it generated its own lightning. And guess what lightning can do? That’s right. Lightning can start fires. So remember to have some sympathy for those Down Under. Climate Change is wreaking havoc down there and it will happen every year. So enjoy that snow while you can. Winter is here. But Summer is Coming.
