Barbie Movie Set Construction Caused Worldwide Shortage of Pink Paint

BARBIE MOVIE CAUSED GLOBAL SHORTAGE OF ONE PARTICULAR SHADE OF PINK PAINT

I’m fairly resigned to having to see the new Barbie movie at some point.  I like both lead actors and think they could only do a good job in whatever role they play.  But I’m not really a Barbie kind of guy.  Yet I’m not immune to all the coverage the movie is getting, and it is universally positive and increasingly interesting.  I guess we’ll have to see!  But one of the more interesting tidbits that just came out is how the movie’s set construction all by itself used so much pink paint that it caused a worldwide shortage.

IF JUST THE BARBIE MOVIE CAUSED THIS SHORTAGE, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT’S RELEASED?

At first when I heard about it I assumed the reason was that the movie had come out and young fans everywhere went home and begged for their rooms, and who knows what else, to be painted in fresh, bright pink.  That makes some sense to me, though I maintain that could still happen!  But no, the reason is that the scale of the movie’s sets were so big, the production itself so big, that they ordered so much paint at once to be true to Barbie that that alone caused a worldwide shortage.  And, well, that alone is some serious viral marketing, don’t you think?

WHEN THE MOVIE COMES OUT, WILL EVERY KID WANT THIS SHADE OF PINK PAINT AT HOME, TOO?

And well, there is one caveat that will make more sense.  The particular shade of bright pink the production used (and ordered in crazy bulk) was a shade made only by the company Rosco.  And by bulk, I mean the Barbie movie production ordered this pink paint from Rosco until Rosco had nothing left to give.  And don’t take the grapevine’s, or my word for it.  the VP of Rosco global marketing Lauren Proud confirmed, “They did clean us out on paint.”  And note there: global marketing.

So what’s gonna happen when all the kids cry for the very same paint once this movie makes a (pink) splash everywhere?  The writings on the wall.  And it’s pink!
