FUR ON DOGS CLEANER THAN BEARDS ON HUMAN MEN, HUMANS HAVE MORE GERMS
So this isn’t the kind of news you want to hear if you love banjo music. Sorry. But that totally applies. So first let me admit that I do, on occasion, sport a furry face myself. But that’s more of a winter thing, especially as I don’t love the itch on the way, nor the grey once I get there. But now we have another cause to pause when it comes to growing a beard. Beards are dirty! Like, really dirty. But seriously, like dirty as in bad hygiene. Yes, that’s officially, scientifically dirty. Human beards have more germs than dogs hair! Bearded men are dirty dirty.

SCIENCE SAYS DOGS MORE HYGIENIC THAN MEN WITH BEARDS
So, just like clockwork, we have the Swiss to thank for this info. The actual, scientific study, came out of the Hirslanden Clinic which is near Zurich, in Switzerland. So what was their methodology? Well, they made their comparison by measuring the hygiene of humans and dogs in an MRI scanner. So yeah, it’s officially scientific. But here are some scientific terms. They measured the bacterial load in colony-forming units (or CFUs) from human-pathogenic microorganisms. They took these specimens from 18 bearded men and 30 dogs with doggy fur. In other words, they first measured, then compared, the number of bacteria in men’s beards and dog’s fur(s).

But the answers were anything but pretty. Especially for ladies who like a little scruff on the tough. But the researchers “dug” a little deeper as well. They compared human only MRI machines with dog and human MRI machines! All the men with beards had really high counts of microbes. But only 23 of the 30 doggies did too. But 7 of the men were so microbial (as in, dirty, dirty) that they were risking serious illness! So, it’s official! Dogs are cleaner than men with beards. So who’s a good boy?
