This week I met my boyfriend’s family, who turned out to be wonderful people, and now we can never breakup. The last time I met a boyfriend’s family I was twenty years old and living in another country. I didn’t have any family around, and it felt right to meet them even though we had only been dating a couple months. After all, I was going back to America a few months later, and who knew what was going to happen after that. I ended up becoming a big part of their family, meeting everyone, cooking for holidays, learning to sew from his grandmother. I had simply assimilated, I had not met them in the normal way. But meeting my next BFs family was different.

This time was different. I have been dating my boyfriend for a year and he has met my parents because they live in the same city as us. We go out with them, hang out with them casually, meet their friends at shows and parties. But I only got the chance to meet his family this last week, a year into our relationship. I didn’t even think what would have happened if it hadn’t gone well. It had to go well, we are together and in love so it just had to!

Very luckily, it did. They were so wonderful and kind. They asked good questions and were the exact right amount of quirky. He has a bigger family than I do, and it was so nice to feel like I was a part of such a loving group of people. It was heaven. So clearly we can never break up now. I love them too much. They love me too much. We are all too happy together. Holidays will be too lovely, summer vacations too pleasant. We are all intertwined now, so that’s it. Forever. Wish me luck.
