CALIFORNIA TEACHER WON’T FACE CHARGES AFTER CAUGHT HAMMERED IN THE CLASSROOM

There was a bar, a literal dive really, that I used to go to that was a nice, calm place to unwind some days after work.  But the exception was always Fridays during the school year, when teachers would come in droves together and get hammered.  They were… boisterous, and loud like adolescents drinking for the first time ever.  Every.  Friday.  But hey, I get it.  Teaching is a hard job, and if I was a teacher I’d likely do the same think every Friday, after work.  But one California teacher got hammered on the job, and somehow the woman won’t be charged for being drunk on the job.

POLICE ARRESTED CALIFORNIA TEACHER AFTER SHE REGISTERED A .20% BLOOD ALCOHOL COUNT

And here I thought teachers unions had lost their muster!  But to make matters even more interesting, initially this drunk California teacher story started with a person calling the Yuba City police to report a woman driving drunk on the way to Nuestro Elementary School.  Police then arrested the 57-year-old 2nd grade teacher after she registered a .20% blood alcohol level.  They then charged her with DUI as well as child endangerment.  But evidently, those charges have been dropped, and the details are a little surprising.  But the law is the law, even when surprising.

BUT CALIFORNIA TEACHER WASN’T BREAKING ANY LAWS BY BEING HAMMERED ON THE JOB

The details are that Sutter County prosecutors couldn’t ascertain whether the California teacher drove to work under the influence, or if she instead got totally shitfaced after she got there.  And as for the child endangerment charge?  The prosecutors also couldn’t determine any way that the drunk teacher were ever in any danger as a result of her being… shitfaced.  And get this!  There is no law on the books saying that it’s against the law for a teacher to be drunk at work!  So legally, the California teacher did nothing wrong.  But it’s a bad look, no matter what the law says.  So it’s not surprising that the school principal emailed all the 2nd grade class parents to tell them a substitute had taken over duties.
