Getting a divorce is never easy for anyone involved, but it is particularly difficult at the Yibin People’s Court. One judge recently implemented a divorce exam that both the husband and the wife must fail in order for their divorce application to be approved. Yes, a divorce exam. Pass this exam, then judge says no divorce for you.

This divorce exam is the brainchild of a judge in China named Wang Shiyu who thought that divorces accounted for an alarmingly large percentage of the court’s cases, he then decided to do something about it. His intention was to make couples think again before ending their marriage. So he offered an opportunity to reminisce the good times they had together throughout their marriage. A series of questions was developed for both husband and wife, which they must answer separately. 60 is the score threshold, below you fail, and above you pass. Just don’t pass this exam? The written exam consists of three parts, fill in the blank, short answer question and factual statements.
