DESPITE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS MANAGEMENT, ANDREW CUOMO STILL DEFINITELY AN ASSHOLE
So I keep hearing about how impressed everyone is with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Ok, sure, he’s using a voice of reason as a crisis manager for his state. And yes, New York will likely have the most Coronavirus deaths in America. By far. And Andrew Cuomo is definitely doing a lot to bring the state thru this. But just because he’s a functional crisis manager doesn’t mean he’s not an asshole. Because he is one, on policy and philosophy, in too many ways to present here. But I will be sure to talk about one topic New York will continue to face: autism.

ASSHOLE ANDREW CUOMO LOOKING TO STRIP OVER A THIRD OF FUNDING FOR NEW YORK AUTISM SERVICES
Autism? Yes, autism. Andrew Cuomo is about to screw people with autism, as well as their families. How? Well, New York has more autism services than most other American states. That’s a good thing. Because autism isn’t going away. Not by a long shot. In fact, the numbers of New Yorkers with autism goes up 10-13% every year. Every year! We call that a snowball effect. So the needs will grow, not diminish. So what is Andrew Cuomo about to do? Oh, not too much. He’s only proposed to cut the OPWDD budget by 37%. Sounds like a lot, right? Well, it’s huge. That’s more than a third of the funding!

AUTISM IS A GROWING PROBLEM EVERY YEAR, SO WHY SCREW NEW YORK FAMILIES AND THE DISABLED?
So what is the OPWDD? That’s the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. And a huge part of what they do is facilitate services and supports for people with disabilities. And yes, a LOT of those are people with autism. So why does Andrew Cuomo act as a functional crisis manager for Coronavirus, but not autism? Because autism is also a pandemic. It’s just a slower creep. But promises to be even more devastating over time if we don’t prepare and do what we can. New York has already fallen behind itself for autism services. Early Intervention programs have disappeared across the state. Why? Because pay rates for therapists haven’t gone up since 1994. 26 years ago.
How much have the governor’s and legislature’s salary gone up? 50%. See? Andrew Cuomo is an asshole. If you compare an ogre to a troll, the ogre looks pretty upstanding. And you know who the troll is.
