Oops, Fighter Jet Passenger Ejected by Accident in France

DEFENSE CONTRACTOR ACCIDENTALLY SELF EJECTED FROM FIGHTER JET IN FRANCE

So I’m not sure how I missed this little nugget when it happened.  Maybe it had something to do with all the Coronavirus coverage?  But we need these little silly stories, especially when they are not bad news.  Just… silly news.  But keep this in mind, should you ever have the opportunity to be a passenger in a fighter jet.  Sure, that’s unlikely.  But wouldn’t that be fun?  Hell, yes.  Well, unless you do what this “stressed out” guy did in France.  Because he had two rides in one!  That’s what happens when you eject yourself by accident.  Well, I mean when you do it to yourself, of course.

64-YEAR-OLD MAN FULL OF TERROR, BUT DIDN’T WANT TO DISAPPOINT FRIENDS WITH FIGHTER JET RIDE

So this happened last month in March at the airbase in Saint-Dizier, France.  A French defense contractor thought they were giving their colleague a fun surprise.  They arranged approval for him to be a passenger in a Dassault Rafale B fighter jet.  It was a training exercise, which sounds great.  But the 64-year-old man was never interested in doing anything like this!  In fact, he’d never even said he wanted to!  But it was a cool hook-up and he didn’t want to disappoint his friends.  Unfortunately, he was absolutely terrified.  And, well, he ejected himself as a result.

MAN EJECTED HIMSELF FROM FIGHTER JET AT 2,400 FEET, LOST HELMET BUT LANDED WITH NO INJURY, UNLIKE GOOSE

So what happened?  The man panicked, is what. In his terror, he grabbed something within reach.  That, of course, was the ejector control for his seat.  He lost his helmet as he ejected himself at 2,500 feet.  Fortunately, he landed without injury near the French border with Germany.  The pilot managed to land with no problem.  But he did have some contusions on his face from his passenger’s ejection.  So the man was so afraid, his smart watch showed that his heart was in full tachycardia before he even got on the fighter jet!  That’s 136-142 beats per minute.  So as you might imagine, French authorities are reconsidering having casual passengers on their fighter jets.

Because no one wants to be Goose.  Especially a silly one….
