INSANE MONSTER FISH CATCH, AS 2 FISHERMEN HAUL IN 300 POUND WARSAW GROUPER
So I fished a little, here and there, growing up. I know enough that I can put live shrimp on a hook as bait and not kill them. I know I can’t fly fish, like ever. And I know from my grandfather’s angry voice and the Jaws movie not to ever get between a line and anything else. But catching anything over, say, 8 or 10 pounds just isn’t something I get. Sure, fighting a swordfish looks pretty exciting. But there’s all sorts of hidden monsters in the water. And this Warsaw grouper is definitely one of them. Yes, a grouper. It weighs over 300 pounds and somehow some Florida fishermen made it the haul of the decade.

AFTER 3 YEARS ON THE HUNT, QUEEQUEGS FINALLY MAKE THEIR GROUPER CATCH IN THE GULF
So no, that is not the kind of fish you just throw back. And the two professional fishermen knew this Warsaw grouper was a keeper. But it wasn’t happenstance or simple luck. Joshua Jorgensen and Jason Boyll spent 3 long years looking for it. No, it’s not like three years of a hunk of metal… never mind. But that’s a commitment. They sunk their hook of achievement into this Warsaw grouper just off a coral reef in the Gulf of Mexico. And no, there’s no net to bring this monster aboard. It took 4 strong men to pull it from the water.

WHILE THE WARSAW GROUPER IS HUGE, THE GOLIATH GROUPER MAKES THEM LOOK SMALL
So besides over 300 pounds and the picture, what else is there to know about this “fish?” Well, it’s 7 feet long, for one. And the sharp spines on its back are as long as 2 feet! Not the kind of fish you want to run into in a dark alley. I mean, anywhere at all. So can you eat grouper? Well, of course you can. You’ve already had grouper, I expect. And this Warsaw grouper tastes just like all the rest. But I should note here that as impressive as this catch is, it’s not necessarily a good thing. Why? Because we have no idea if they’re an endangered species or not.
But don’t fret. If you want to find your very own monster, you can look for another in the Atlantic. The Goliath grouper. They max out at about 800 pounds…… You’ll need a bigger boat. Oh, and never get off the boat.
