FLORIDA STATE OFFICIALS SAY “SORRY” AFTER 4:45AM EMERGENCY TEST ALERT CALL YESTERDAY MORNING
While I love Florida for ridiculous and stupid news, I’ve gotta say I’m increasingly grateful I don’t live there. There are too many reasons to list here as to why. But I’m, going to highlight this one, as it happened only yesterday. And I mean, really, really early yesterday morning. No matter where you live, you are occasionally subject to some kind of emergency test alerts from time to time. That could mean your phones, tv, radio, or even a local air raid siren. Most of us have some form of subscriber phone alerts. But what about getting an emergency alert test call at 4:45am? I’d sure be cranky. And I’m not sure if the state of Florida’s “sorry” would help one bit.

EMERGENCY TEST ALERT CALL MADE A LOT OF WOKEN UP FLORIDIANS VERY ANGRY
So every single resident in Florida who subscribes to emergency alerts got a call yesterday morning at 4:45am, except for those who were diligent enough to have their phones on silent when they went to sleep. As you might imagine, a LOT of folks in Florida were none too pleased to get a wake-up call in the middle of the night. Eventually, yesterday, the Florida Division of Emergency Management admitted that the emergency test call at that hour wasn’t “ideal.” And yes, apologies followed from multiple officials. And no, those officials didn’t include Governor Ron DeSantis.

SORRY DOESN’T QUITE CUT IT, BUT FLORIDA PROMISES DEAD-OF-NIGHT EMERGENCY ALERT TEST WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN
But apologies, while welcome, aren’t terribly reassuring. I for one would want to be told that this could never happen again! The FDEM later tweeted (they really should include Mastodon, too) that it was “taking the appropriate action to ensure this will never happen again and that only true emergencies are sent as alerts in the middle of the night.” I should hope so! How much would your blood boil if you got a 4:45am emergency alert test call? But I do find it funny that no visitors to Disney World would have gotten the call….
