SUCK A PICKLE, LIKE, SERIOUSLY

The next year may be surprising for many people in terms of exciting and strange foods that they will find themselves trying for the first time.  Even you might suddenly realize you’re sucking on a pickle flavored candy cane in 2018, or maybe a bacon with flower essence tea.  The national chain and empire Whole Foods is trying to predict the hottest food trends for the coming year.

FOOD TRENDS OF 2018 COULD BE EXCITING SAYS WHOLE FOODS

Floral essence is a hot topic and all the rage in food trends, especially with essential oil’s popularity.  Elderflower, lavender and elderberry, noted for their calming properties will increasingly be appearing in teas, sodas and even smoothies.  This will be terrific for the non-whole foodies out there who aren’t into getting all their fiber and nutrients.  At least, they can make-believe that they are getting them in their green soda or pea protein essence muffin.

Whole Foods predicts five new foods to come into popularity next year.  Ready?  Mushroom-infused coffee, engineered plant-based food, roots to stems, super powders and floral flavors.  And pickle candy cane unfortunately doesn’t count.  But you can still buy them if you want to.

DON’T MUNCH ON THE FOREST BERRIES AND THE MAGIC OF MUSHROOMS

Mushrooms varieties have been known to boost everything in your body including your immune system and your levels of antioxidants.  If they aren’t growing in the corner of your moldy house, them you want to eat them.  But get an expert’s advice just in case.  Don’t start munching on all the forest berries and mushrooms.  Just buy the darn teas!  Plan on seeing fancy teas mushroom varieties infused in coffee, sodas, broths and even chocolate to encourage overall wellness.

HEALTHY MEAT, BUT WITHOUT THE MEAT

As a great number of people are more and more interested in plant based foods – meaning low on the food chain and green, green, green.  Companies are finding new ways to orchestrate the taste of meat, just without the meat.  Flavoring and manipulating veggies, making them taste like your favorite chicken dish – but better for you overall.

TRY A FANCY CARROT “TRIMMING” SLAW

This coming year you are going to not want to waste your veggie roots or stems.  Instead, what may have been previously garbage to you, is cuisine to others.  Everyone who is anyone will be turning their foods into pickled slaw, fancy stems and insane pesto.  This is what our grandparents did before we came along and started to ruin the planet.  But hey, call it fancy carrot trimmings slaw, and have a party and call it a day. Yawn.

PEA PEA POWDER WILL SET YOU FREE

Protein super powders are the next best thing.  Kale, spirulina, maca root, raw caocao in powder form.  This is going to be more popular than vanilla flavored pea protein powder.  The joy of feeling so cleansed is upon us.  Seek catharsis in solitude!

FLORAL GLUTAMATES VS FLORAL INGREDIENTS

And last but not least are the floral flavors.  I wonder how they are going to make this one healthy if it includes glutamates?  If it’s solely floral essence,  then be sure to research their impact on your overall system.  If it’s elderberry flavor, then why not just get yourself some elderberry?  In general, don’t do flavors, do ingredients.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT, SO EAT ORIGINAL AND REAL FOOD

All concern aside, other popular trends will be more transparency with food. Particularly where foods come from.  Despite your labels, do check your ingredients.  You are what you eat.  So look forward to 2018 and the trends that can make you healthier!  Just pay attention to your body, treat it like a temple.
