ICE WANTS TO STOP ILLEGAL PEOPLE, MONEY, PRODUCTS AND “IDEAS” FROM CROSSING THE BORDER
I’m not one of the people who is “proud” of the recent and wide crackdown on illegal immigration. It’s just not a drum beat that carries any kind of an American tune for me. And ICE under Donald Trump has made some pretty scary waves recently, with quite the number of legal challenges pending for deporting a lot of people with absolutely no due process whatsoever. It’s really quite scary. But this is even scarier: ICE just posted a picture (already removed, of course) of their mission, which said was to stop the illegal border crossing into America of people, money, products, AND IDEAS.

IF “SUSPECTED” IDEAS ARE NOW ILLEGAL, WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT IDEAS ARE ALLOWED
Ideas? There are illegal ideas? Apparently, they’re serious about that. But when media reached out to ICE to explain their full “mission” parameters, it seemed it knew that being idea police was a bad look. Well, so far, at least. But while disappearing people using masked government agents is as un-American as I could imagine, I never thought we’d have the literal goal of Big Brother being thought police. Yet, here we are. So far, ICE hasn’t responded to media aside from pulling their posted image down. But the genie is already out of the bottle. How, you ask?

“IDEA POLICE” IS THE SCARIEST THING TO HAPPEN TO AMERICAN DEMOCRACY, SO FAR
Because Secretary of State Marco Rubio just sent a memo to the United States Supreme Court that said, no, Mahmoud Kahlil didn’t commit a crime, but removed the green card holder because of things he “might believe.” In other words, the United States government now attests with no shame at all that it has the right to deport people because of what it believes someone “might believe.” I’m not sure what is scarier than that. Except for where this terrifying path takes what’s left of American democracy.
