3 PEOPLE IN CALIFORNIA FACE CHARGES FOR INSURANCE FRAUD, DAMAGES TO LUXURY CARS WITH A BEAR SUIT
Insurance fraud is a problem, though not one I’ve ever been too aware of. Every once in a while, some people make the stupidest attempts to get money for nothing (and no, no chicks for free). But this story is so outrageous as to defy belief. And it didn’t take all that much for the perpetrators to get caught. Three claims were made in Lake Arrowhead, near Los Angeles, that involved a bear or bears who broke into luxury cars and did some damage. And generally, I could believe that with all the videos of bears literally breaking into cars and tearing them apart from the inside.

INSURANCE ADJUSTERS QUICKLY SAW THAT IT WASN’T REALLY A BEAR IN SECURITY FOOTAGE
But insurance companies don’t just take claims at face value. While they don’t necessarily practice the “trust, but verify” doctrine, they do exercise due diligence to make sure a claim is legitimate. So when insurance adjusters looked at security video to see the footage of a bear (or bear) damaging two Mercedes and a Rolls-Royce Ghost, they didn’t see exactly what they expected to see: a bear (or bears). They saw insurance fraud, and it wasn’t all that hard for them to determine that the creature they saw damaging the cars was actually a human being in a bear costume. With claws, as you can see in the picture above.

So now the three claimants, or likely perpetrators of insurance fraud, face charges of both insurance fraud as well as conspiracy. They are Ruben Tamrazian, 26; Ararat Chirkinian, 39; and Vahe Muradkhanyan, 32, all of Glendale, and Alfiya Zuckerman, 39, of Valley Village. And if you watch the surveillance video, you can make your own obvious judgement too. But bears don’t leave claw marks on upholstery, they leave giant tears and gouges, or even tear the entire seat out. Even worse, a search warrant on the three offered up the very bear costume used in the insurance fraud scheme.
