“THE LITTLE MERMAID” DISNEY MOVIE IS GETTING RACIST REVIEW-BOMBED ON IMDB
I’ve certainly heard about the new “The Little Mermaid” movie. I don’t live under a rock and I’m pretty wired in to news. So I definitely know about the latest live-action iteration of the newly classic Disney animation. And no, I didn’t see the cartoon and have no plans to see the new one. But that’s because I’m an adult, and my kids aren’t old enough to see it yet. It’s certainly not because I’m a racist who crawled out from under a rock that I reside under. But those racists are out there, and they have thoroughly review-bombed the movie, with no little effort.

RACIST REVIEW-BOMB DUE TO HALLE BAILEY BEING CAST AS THE LITTLE MERMAID LEAD
So why? Well, it’s yet another instance where racists are all upset about casting, as the little mermaid herself is played by an African-American woman, Halle Bailey. We’ve seen it before, and even universally loved franchises like Star Wars haven’t proved immune to racist rants, calls for boycotts, and of course getting review-bombed. And what is review-bombing? It’s when racists write an awful, negative review online (say, like in this case, on IMDB) that has nothing to do with the movie aside from whichever cultural icon (say, a black person as the lead) sets them off.

IMDB had to post a warning note on its review page for The Little Mermaid, explaining that their rating mechanism had detected “unusual voting activity.” So IMDB explained, To preserve the reliability of our rating system, an alternate weighting calculation has been applied.” In other words, though they don’t explain the details, IMDB uses a different calculation to come up with the overall movie rating so that it’s more accurate. How do they offset racists and their review-bombing? That isn’t clear. But what is clear is that scared, white racists of a world with anyone else being successful are only lashing out more and more.
