I’ve seen some random clickbait in the past few weeks talking about Trump voter remorse. The examples are pretty general and limited even for clickbait. But there sure does seem to be a few folks out there who are totally MAGA all the way voted for Donald Trump and now wonder at the wisdom of their fandom in the voting booth. This specific story strikes me with a little more poignancy, as I have some connection to legal immigrants who aren’t too sure about anyone’s security these days. But this MAGA Trump voter is confused and maybe starting to see the light now that ICE has nabbed his immigrant wife.

And that’s the funny thing about any form of xenophobia or racism and always has been. Those “other” folks aren’t real until someone you know is suddenly “other” according to official policy. But seeing the light and then the uglier shadows it casts isn’t an easy process. His wife Camila Muñoz who is from Peru got nabbed at the airport by ICE. And while she’s not yet got her green card, it’s in process. But anyone in that process better think twice, thrice or however many times it takes to understand that they better not leave the U.S. for any reason if they want to get back in. Because ICE is grabbing any and anyone for the most minor reasons and sending them to detention centers. That’s where this wife of a MAGA Trump voter is now in a Louisiana detention center. And yes, incarcerating people like Camila Muñoz costs money. I wonder who’s getting paid for this sudden rush of involuntary clients?

Now, this MAGA voter is burning his savings to make a down payment on a house just to get his wife back. Seeing the light can be a painful, costly process.
