MARK CUBAN TRIED TO CONVINCE MICHAEL JORDAN TO SIGN WITH MAVERICKS AT LAST MINUTE
So we likely won’t ever hear enough about this. And not in any real way from Michael Jordan directly. But we’re now hearing that Mark Cuban tried an 11th hour push to sign Michael Jordan to the Dallas Mavericks when he came out of retirement. So yes, that means Jordan could have played with Steve Nash in his prime AND a 23-year-old Dirk Nowitzki. Just let that sit in, for a moment. Michael Jordan could have played on a deep, nasty Texas team for two years as his swan song. It’s enough to make you cry yourself to sleep.

FALL 2001 WOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING WITH MICHAEL JORDAN, NOWITZKI AND NASH IN THE SAME JERSEYS
Well, I only say that last because the death of Len Bias still stings. What if. Sure, sports and life in general are full of what ifs. But this one? I remember being kind of grateful that Jordan returned that year. But it was 2001, a hard year. The movie Amélie just wasn’t enough. But the GOAT back in basketball? It was huge. And Mark Cuban knew it. I mean, he knew when to sell his Amazon stock, right? He had just bought the Mavericks the year before. He tried to talk Michael Jordan out of signing with the Wizards, even as the paperwork was waiting for Jordan to sign.

Ugh! So what happened? Well, the Michael Jordan Rules, is what. No, not the book. Jordan Rules. The man has to RULE. And just playing a role is still something the man can’t accept. But I think Jordan on that Mavericks team would have been a winner. Do you think the Mavs lose to the Kings in the 2nd Round that year with Jordan? Duh. Hell, no. But I suppose we also have to remember that Jordan was also an owner in Washington from the year before. He even got his old coach, Doug Collins, to make him the team’s gravity well on offense.
But still, sigh. That would have been fun. It’s too bad Michael Jordan could never get out of his own way. If you only know how to dominate, it’s hard to enjoy competition. Or sharing the spotlight. But who knows? Maybe Jordan would have destroyed Nowitzki, instead of Kwame….
