MOM IN INDIA UNDER ARREST FOR MURDERING HER DAUGHTER’S ACADEMIC COMPETITION
Normally, I would assume this is a story from America, or in Europe, maybe Japan. But that shows my own bias as a Westerner, of the West. A mom is now under arrest for murder in Puducherry, India. She poisoned her daughter’s academic competition, killing the 13-year-old boy. Why did she do it? So her daughter would get all the attention on the annual celebratory day, dedicated to honor students for their achievements. It’s the kind of horror story that makes any parent feel vulnerable and anxious. Because this could happen to anyone.

ACADEMIC COMPETITION HERE REALLY MEANS SHE KILLED HIM SO HER DAUGHTER GOT MORE ATTENTION
The under arrest for murder mom says she only meant to give the boy diarrhea by giving him a tainted soft drink, not to kill him. She says she only wanted to incapacitate him so he couldn’t attend the celebratory day. But instead, she killed her daughter’s academic competition! The victim’s mother thought that a relative had given him the tainted soft drink. But she then started asking around at the school, and then managed to check the CCTV recordings. And that is when she finally saw the other mom put something in the bottle.

I must admit, this story is horrifying- all the more so as I continue to think about it. Competition over kids’ success gets parents in trouble all the time. Fights at sporting events comes to mind. As does various celebrity parents in legal trouble for bribing people to take exams for their kids. But poisoning someone else’s child, to get rid of your kid’s academic competition at an event about recognizing achievement? I simply can’t wrap my head around it. And as for the murderous mom and her claims she only wanted to make him sick from laxatives, it seems totally bogus. The autopsy report clearly shows traces of poison.
