NYPD UNION IS SO TOTALLY SUING THE NYPD COMMISSIONER OVER COP STEROID BAN
Optics are important when it comes to politics and labor. And with police, politics and labor are almost impossible to separate. But police unions don’t seem to have any trouble with optics. Like, at all. Police unions say and advocate for things that would embarrass a necrophilia Satan worshipper. If that seems a bit much, just have a gander at this. The NYPD Union is suing the… NYPD (in the form of NYPD Police Commissioner Edward Caban as well as Mayor Adams) over New York cops’ rights to keep right on using steroids.

NYPD UNION KNOWS THAT ANY REVIEW OF STEROID SCRIPS WILL FIND FIREABLE DISCREPANCIES
Back in 2011, the then NYPD police contract made it verboten for cops to ingest or even possess any form of anabolic steroid or growth hormone if they didn’t involve a medical prescription. In other words, NYPD officers had to toe the same legal, medical line that you and I do. But that old contractual rule didn’t include the more recent requirement, and reason for the lawsuit, that if a cop did have a prescription for anabolic steroids or growth hormones, to immediately “notify their district surgeon” of said prescription(s). In other words, this new rule meant that cops could get in trouble, contractually, for failure to comply by notify.

JUST HOW MANY COPS COULD GET FIRED IF NYPD UNION LAWSUIT COMES UP EMPTY?
And that’s where the union comes in. Because clearly this is an issue that could affect a whole lot of NYPD officers. Just think about it. If cops get a prescription and notify the district surgeon, the prescription’s rationale could be reviewed as being necessary. And you and I both know it’s not that hard to find police friendly doctors to give their cop friends whatever they want. The key term here is “medical documentation,” the kind of thing that doesn’t always hold up so well under scrutiny. And, if you think about it, this new rule could make things awkward for cop friendly doctors and dry up the otherwise illicit market for steroids and growth hormones for good.
So there you have it, folks. The NYPD likes to juice, and the NYPD union knows a lot of cops could get fired for an actionable offense if they don’t win their lawsuit. The optics aren’t…. good. I mean, seriously, how great does it look (especially in terms of civil liability) where NYPD cops are even more aggressive due to steroids? It’s a bad look, ripped or no.
