OKLAHOMA PROSECUTOR REALLY, REALLY WANTS TO PROSECUTE PREGNANT LADIES SMOKING LEGAL WEED
It’s a challenge to process how much has changed with the (quasi) legalization of marijuana products in recent years (and months, depending on the state). But besides the regular smell of ganja pretty much everywhere in public, one thing that hasn’t changed (at all) is the various political nasty pettiness of various local prosecutors. And this time, we’re going to talk about what’s happening in Oklahoma, where even when a judge tosses their case out, they appeal. Because they really want to prosecute pregnant ladies smoking legal weed. And by legal, I mean medical marijuana, purchased with an official license.

PREGNANT LADIES COULD BE USING LEGAL WEED FOR ALL SORTS OF THINGS, LIKE NAUSEA
At first blush, you may also have a slight twitch hearing about a pregnant woman smoking weed. But then there’s that term, medical, which means that doctors felt that pregnant ladies had a legitimate reason to use marijuana. Now, I don’t expect that the rationale was glaucoma, for any of them. But pain? That’s a possibility. As is inflammation. But most especially, I bet some of these pregnant ladies are using it to help control their out of control nausea. I don’t really know, or care for that matter. But Kay County prosecutors in Oklahoma do, and they won’t let it go.

AFTER A JUDGE THREW THE CASE OUT, PROSECUTORS MOVED TO APPEAL, WANT TO SEND PREGNANT LADIES TO JAIL
So, what’s the rationale to not just prosecute pregnant ladies in Oklahoma, but to appeal when a judge throws the case out? Well, I’d say it’s logic. But it’s tortured, patriarchal, political logic in its worst form. And you can bet your bottom dollar where these put the pregnant ladies in jail folks stand on something like abortion. Because control of a woman’s body is what this is all about. And the tortured logic, or supposed legal rationale? They’re representing the unborn children, of course, who don’t have their own, separate license to use medical marijuana. Here we are again, with conservative lawyers.
