Oklahoma State Superintendent Wanted to Make Schools Teach The Trump Bible

OKLAHOMA SUPERINTENDENT HAD A SCHEME TO FORCE SCHOOLS TO TEACH THE TRUMP BIBLE

While I’ve never been to Oklahoma, I’m pretty well aware that it’s a red, or Republican, state when it comes to votes in the U.S. Senate.  Well, or whenever there’s news like this.  But news like this doesn’t come quite every day.  The Superintendent of schools in the state of Oklahoma is one Ryan Walter.  And yes, of course he’s a Republican.  But this Republican Superintendent of the otherwise fine state of Oklahoma wanted a new mandate for the schools he oversees.  Not only did he want to force schools to teach the bible, he wanted them to only use the Trump bible.  You know, the one that makes Trump money with each sale?

THE TRUMP BIBLE, OR ANY BIBLE, FORCED ON KIDS IN OKLAHOMA SCHOOLS IS AGAINST THE LAW

And while that’s bad, and yes it’s really bad, it gets worse if you think about it only a little bit.  For one, the Oklahoma Constitution includes laws that forbid spending any public money spent on the support of a religion, and especially one religion over another.  And since the Trump bible is in the Protestant vein, that would supersede not just other religions, but all other versions of Christianity, to boot.  And then there’s the not so little detail of how Republican Superintendent Ryan Walter’s plan for this included spending $3 million of public money on Trump bibles.  In other words, Ryan Walter wanted to send $3 million dollars of Oklahoma taxpayer money straight into Donald Trump’s pocket.

PARENTS ARE SUING TO MAKE SURE OKLAHOMA PARENTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHEN THEIR KIDS LEARN ABOUT THE BIBLE

And Oklahoma parent Erika Wright, who is also the founder of the Oklahoma Rural Schools Coalition, is suing to make sure the entire scheme from this Superintendent is completely toast.  Buying Trump’s bibles was already a dead deal once the media got wind of it.  But parents like Wright and her husband want to be in control of when, where and how their kids learn about the bible.  Hint: not in school.  But their lawsuit also contends that the Superintendent and the state Board of Education don’t have any authority to force schools (and teachers) to use specific instructional materials.

I bet we can expect more news from Oklahoma soon, as demagogues like Superintendent Ryan Walter have more than one agenda (I’d say more than one way to skin a cat, but Walter may also have dishonest opinions about immigrants, too).
