ONLINE ROLE PLAYING GAMER ATTACKS FELLOW GAMER WITH HAMMER ATTACK TO THE HEAD
Online gaming is increasingly popular. And two of the largest player groups fall into two categories, MMO and MMORPG. MMO is the acronym for massively multiplayer online game, or a lot of real people playing the same game on the same server. MMORPG is the acronym for massively multiplayer online role-playing game. And from personal experience, I can attest that things can get heated with people caught up in the competitive moment. Things are said (in-game chat) and done (in-game). It even gets hot. Think rod rage meets online gaming. But one online role playing gamer took things to the RW (the real world) and ambushed a fellow gamer, hitting him in the head with a hammer.

BOTH ONLINE ROLE PLAYING GAMERS PLAY ARCHEAGE, A POPULAR MMARPG IN KOREA
To be honest (tbh), I’m kind of surprised we don’t hear more about these kinds of attacks. But this one is pretty special, in a bad way. The online role playing gamer who used the hammer on a hated fellow gamer is a 20-year-old from New Jersey, Edward Kang. He and his victim both play a MMORPG game called ArcheAge, which is hosted and popular in Korea (and, evidently out of it). Kang told his parents he was going to visit an online friend, and went to Fernandina Beach Florida. But visiting a friend doesn’t usually mean you break into the friend’s house, hide, and then ambush them with a hammer to the head when they leave their computer for a bathroom break.

ATTACKER TRAVELLED TO FLORIDA, BROKE INTO VICTIM’S HOME, HID AND AMBUSHED HIM
But that’s what Kang did. His victim was able to wrestle Kang to the ground and call for help after taking a hammer hit to the head. He and his awoken stepfather were able to disarm Kang and hold him until police arrived. The victim suffered severe head wounds in the attack, though is now back at home from the hospital. Kang, the online role playing gamer attacker, now faces 2nd-degree murder charges as well as armed burglary. After his arrest, Kang told police that his victim was a “bad person online.” While I can understand the sentiment, for a moment at least, I can’t fathom what Kang did.
As of tomorrow, ArcheAge will no longer be available to play in the United States. Something to due with not having enough players in the US. Go figure!
