AN OREGON AMBULANCE HIT AND INJURED A CYCLIST, THEN CHARGED HIM FOR TRIP TO THE HOSPITAL
Healthcare in America seems to only work in terms of profit for years now. There are a lot of pretty ugly examples of this, but this example is so egregious it’s worth making people aware of it. Rainier, Oregon is a small town, but their local emergency services like to make large and unfair charges. While that’s not unusual anywhere in America, it’s hard to understand what Columbia River Fire & Rescue was thinking. One of their ambulances hit a 71-year-old cyclist. While it was an accident, it was no accident when the victim cyclist then got a bill for the ride the very same ambulance gave him to the hospital.

71-YEAR-OLD CYCLIST SUFFERED A BROKEN NOSE AND INJURIES TO HIS BODY FROM AMBULANCE HIT
So if that’s not clear, an ambulance hit an older gentleman, giving him a broken nose and other injuries to the rest of his body. Then the same ambulance took him to the hospital to get assessment and treatment. And then Columbia River Fire & Rescue send the cyclist victim a bill of $1,862 for the privilege. Unsurprisingly, the cyclist victim Mr. Hoesch isn’t happy with the accident. But he’s livid with the bill and is suing for damages. Wouldn’t you? It was an accident caused by the ambulance driver. And the bill was sent by his employer.

Mr. Hoesch and the ambulance were driving on the same street in the same direction. That was fine, right up until the ambulance made a right turn into Mr. Hoesch, destroying his bicycle and injuring him. But then they sent him a bill for services needed only because of an accident they caused and were responsible for. Even worse, Columbia River Fire & Rescue wants to leave their victim’s own personal coverage to pick up any expenses they are “unable” to. So he’s suing them for $997,000 in damages.
Of all the countries in the West with “good” healthcare, this could only happen in America.
