Paintball AI Security System Will Shoot Intruders

NEW PAINTBALL AI SECURITY SYSTEM WOULD IDENTIFY, SHOOT INTRUDERS TILL THEY LEAVE

An old family friend got tired of people stealing the hubcaps off his Mercedes, so he got a system installed involving razor blades to stop it.  But it didn’t take long for him to realize the liability hazards, and he had to take the system out.  I can’t help but wonder about this with the news of a new security system that is literally paintball AI.  As you can see from the picture above, it’s a smart camera system that’s able to literally shoot intruders with a stream of paintballs.  But is it legal?  And is it safe in general?

PAINTBALL AI SYSTEM IS A KICKSTARTER PROJECT CALLED PAINTCAM EVE

I must say I like the idea.  It’s similar to people putting in motion sensor water sprayers to drive squirrels away from their gardens and flowers.  But this paintball AI security system is likely on the way, assuming it gets all the backing it needs on Kickstarter.  The system is called Paintcam Eve, and it uses the aforementioned paintballs with “intelligent object tracking” that is supposed to identify possible threats, and hit them with paintballs until they go away.  So far, the system could cost anywhere between $1,200 to $2,000.  And part of that cost differential could be a big part of its safety (and legality).

The more expensive options use smarter AI that can identify animals and human faces.  And yes, that is in order for the system to actually not fire at things it shouldn’t fire at.  I kind of think that should be the case for ALL models as a baseline.  There are too many scenarios where paintball AI could be more than casually hazardous.  But the paintball idea seems pretty solid to me, especially how much easier it would be for police to identify nefarious culprits if they’re covered in paint spatters.  But its legality in various US states is an open question.  And if they offer a tear gas option?  Who knows.  But it’s also on the table.

Getting hit by a paintball hurts.  But it is non-lethal.  I kind of like the idea.
