DUMB POACHERS BOAST TO OFF-DUTY COPS ON A PLANE OF THEIR CRIMINAL EXPLOITS
Apparently, stupid people really do seem to crop up within the criminal elements. Not to say that there isn’t plenty of other stupid out there. But there are just so many stories of perps who essentially bust themselves with their stupidity. To be fair, though, it’s safe to say that smart crooks get caught less. But in this new case, the criminal elements were a couple of poachers who decided to boast of their illegal habits to some off-duty cops they were flying on a plane with. And even better? Those off-duty cops were offices of Fish and Wildlife. You can see where this is going.

POACHERS SHOWED THE OFF-DUTY FISH & WILDLIFE COPS VIDEOS AND SAID THEY HAD CONTRABAND WITH THEM
The two poachers were sitting near the two off-duty cops and evidently a conversation started. The cops, oddly enough, were flying home from a training session. But I’m sure their training didn’t include how poachers were likely to incriminate themselves socially. Yet the cops handled themselves well, especially after the poachers just had to boast that they had an illegal turtle skull with them. Yes, on the plane. Apparently, the cops showed a lot of interest, and the poachers showed off videos of a host of other illegal items they had at home. Then there’s how they also had to boast of killing a mountain lion in California (where they were all flying back to), which totally protected in the Golden State.

AFTER THE FLIGHT LANDED, THE POACHERS SHOWED COPS THEIR ILLEGAL GREEN TURTLE SKULL
But then they also just had to brag about a family member in Napa who had a collection of a taxidermic wolverine, mountain lions and wolves. And oh, yes, they also showed another video of that collection to the off-duty cops, too. That there is pretty incriminating stuff if you are poachers. But the off-duty cops needed to actually witness some physical evidence, and after the flight ended asked to see the sea turtle skull. The poachers were totally down with that, and once TSA personnel left the area, did just that. Oopsie. But these poachers totally didn’t ask the two off-duty cops the key question before all their incriminating bragging: are you cops?
The poachers and a few other people they implicated now face fines and probation. Doesn’t seem quite enough, does it? I wonder why there’s such an enthusiastic market for killing protected wildlife.
