LOUISIANA RAPIST GETS 50 YEARS, ALSO TO HAVE PHYSICAL CASTRATION WITH A CATCH
Rape is one of those crimes that has never-ending repercussions. I’m middle-aged, which means I’ve been alive long enough to personally know rape victims, probably a lot of them. But that’s probably true for almost anyone old enough to have a conversation, even though they don’t know a friend, family member or stranger walking by on the street is one. I first personally learned of a rape victim directly from the person, when I was just 16. It totally personalized what had been abstract, and left me feeling helpless and inadequate for my friend. So I don’t have much sympathy at all for any rapist. That being said, hearing of a rapist in Louisiana getting 50 years in prison with physical castration is stunning.

RAPIST GLENN SULLIVAN, GROOMED, RAPED AND THREATENED 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
The rapist is one Glenn Sullivan, Sr., a 54-year-old man who pled guilty to 4 counts of second-degree rape on April 17th. Sullivan groomed, raped and then later threatened a 14-year-old girl. Now this is the kind of predator that should be out of circulation and behind bars. And the idea that he doesn’t have the physical tools to ever do it again seems commensurate to the crime. But what we can’t forget is the strength and bravery of the girl who stood up to make sure this rapist faced justice. I can’t stand to think of every rapist still out there who’s still out there because of the fear and helplessness of their victims. And there’s also the issue of police making rape victims a victim all over again.

SULLIVAN THE RAPIST WON’T HAVE PHYSICAL CASTRATION TILL A WEEK BEFORE RELEASE?
But Sullivan the rapist has no way to get out of prison until he’s 104 years old, given how Louisiana recently abolished parole. In other words, convicts have to serve their entire sentence. Period. But unfortunately, there’s a catch when it comes to the physical castration. According to the law, men convicted in the state get sentenced to chemical castration, with the option of physical castration (which Sullivan elected). But oddly, the law also states that the castration can’t happen until the week before release from prison. In other words, Sullivan will never face the knife, unless he somehow lives that long as a child rapist in prison.
I suspect he’ll go under a knife of another sort long before….
