How to Recognize your Facial Skin Type for Proper Care

Recognizing facial skin types is very important to help you choose the right product and how to care.  As with most skins, facial skin types can be divided into several categories, namely normal skin types, oily skin, dry skin, and sensitive facial skin types. Some people also have combination skin types in different areas. Type of facial skin depends on several factors, namely the water content of the skin that will affect skin elasticity, the oil content that affects the softness and nutrients of the skin, and the level of skin sensitivity to certain substances. Your skin type may change with age or due to the influence of other factors, such as genetic factors and illness.

Knowing the Skin Types of your Face for Proper Care:

NORMAL FACIAL SKIN

Lucky for you the owner of normal skin type, because this skin type tend to have a balance between the amount of water content and oil content, so it is not too dry but also not too oily. This type of facial skin is usually rarely have skin problems, not too sensitive, the pores are almost invisible, and look luminous. Normal skin type treatment tends to be easier, you simply use a special skin care for normal skin. Use a mild facial cleanser and do not rub the face too roughly. You can rinse your face with warm water and then dried. If you find the skin dry or greasy, try a different cleanser.

DRY SKIN

Type of dry facial skin lacks moisture in the outermost layer of skin. This results in cracks in the skin surface, and will feel dry to the touch. This type of skin is also easier to flush, itch, scaly, and inflamed.   • Avoid bathing and washing your face with warm water for too long.
  • Use a moisturizer after each wash your face.
  • Wash facial cleansers with moisturizing ingredients, such as emollient or colloidal oatmeal.

OILY SKIN

Oily skin type is usually due to sebum production from the excess sebaceous glands (oil glands). Sebum is an oil derived from fat. While sebaceous glands are glands that exist beneath the skin surface. Although sebum works to help protect and moisturize the skin, but excess sebum will cause facial skin becomes oily, clogged pores and cause acne. The factors that affect the high production of sebum in a person’s skin is a genetic factor, hormonal changes, or stress. Oily skin type tends to have large pores, looks shiny but dull, and usually accompanied by blackheads, acne, and black spots.

Oily skin type treatment can be by:

  • Wash your face every day, at least twice a day. Avoid facial cleansers with detergent content, and use a gentle soapy soap containing glycerin.
  • Oil paper. Although it does not prevent excess sebum production, it can help to minimize excess oil on the face.
  • Clay cosmetics. This type of cosmetics helps absorb oils on facial skin and treat many skin conditions. You can also use clay mask or clay as one treatment.
  • Honey mask, lemon-egg mask, aloe vera mask, tomato mask, almond mask, and jojoba oil can also be a treatment for oily facial skin types.
  • Avoid unhealthy foods such as fried foods, high-sugar foods, and processed foods.
  • When the skin is too oily, reduce the use of makeup, especially foundation. Choose non-oil based water based products. Look for noncomedogenic labeled products that tend not to clog pores.

  • Use an oil-free sunscreen and moisturizer.
  • If a product that is sold freely on the market is not enough to help care for oily skin, you are advised to consult a dermatologist. Laser, chemical peel, and cream mixed with tretinoin, adapalene, or tazarotene can help overcome oily skin.

SENSITIVE SKIN

This type of sensitive facial skin has a low sensitivity to some things. This type of skin is easy to experience allergies or irritations, and rashes as a reaction to certain factors, such as environment, plants, food, and even cosmetic products. Sensitive facial skin will easily experience redness, itching, drying, peeling, and burning when it comes in contact with the trigger.

Treatment of sensitive skin types can be by knowing the triggers that cause allergic reactions or irritation. Use a soft facial soap and rinse with warm water. And avoid rubbing the face. COMBINATION SKIN

Combination skin type is a combination of oily and dry skin. A person with a combination skin type usually has an oily skin concentrated in the T-zone (chin, nose, and forehead), while his cheeks remain dry. This type of facial skin can be influenced by genetic factors and puberty, ie when the oil glands increase sebum production.
