HALF A BILLION $ SOCIAL SECURITY FRAUDSTER CAUGHT
It’s a TV movie in the making. Eric Conn has been a fugitive since June. He pled guilty in March to his role in a $500 million Social Security scam. However, Conn cut off his tracking anklet on June 2 and disappeared. Eventually, a SWAT team captured and arrested Conn outside a Honduras Pizza Hut. Local authorities handed Conn over to the FBI. The busted scammer flew back to the US this past week.
KENTUCKY SCAMMER BUSTED AT HONDURAS PIZZA HUT
Conn is a classic high-end criminal. He speaks several languages. His 140 plus border crossings over the last decade has made him familiar with the border and allowed him to make contacts. Conn has told half a dozen people that he would never go to jail if prosecuted for his social security scam. The scammer had a solid plan.
FLIGHT RISK? JUDGE GAVE BOND TO FLIGHT GUARANTEE
For some reason, a federal judge ignored the warning signs and released Conn on $1.25 million bail. Conn was essentially free after pleading guilty to the massive scam. Conn wasn’t a flight risk, he was a flight guarantee. And flee he did. Prosecutors indicted Conn back in 2016. Conn started his escape plans two months later and full year before he went on the lam.

INVESTIGATORS PAINSTAKINGLY TRACKED CONN DOWN
Authorities busted Conn after a long and detailed manhunt. They scanned Conn’s social media habits, banking patterns and personal networks. Conn’s offices and his mother’s home was also searched. Leads led investigators to a Walmart parking lot in New Mexico and eventually to the Honduras Pizza Hut.
CONN FACES MAJOR JAIL TIME FOR ESCAPE, FLIGHT
Amy Hess, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Louisville field office, said, “As promised, Mr. Conn will now be held accountable for his actions, the people he deceived and the lives he shattered, including all the victims of his greed in eastern Kentucky.” After his disappearance, Conn was sentenced in absentia to the maximum sentence of 12 years. The 57-year-old now faces many more years in prison for his flight from justice.
VICTIMS HAPPY FRAUDSTER NAILED
Conn’s victims are happy he’s going to jail. Many are still suffering serious economic hardships from the mess Conn left behind. The self-proclaimed Mr. Social Security had created fake medical evidence by bribing a doctor and a judge. The doctor made fake medical evidence and the judge approved the fraudulent disability claims.
OVER 1,000 PEOPLE VULNERABLE PEOPLE HURT
But Conn’s real and legitimate clients were swept up in the Social Security scandal, losing their much-needed funding. Many have had to fight thru hell to keep their disability checks. Conn’s scam created its own humanitarian crisis, screwing over a thousand, disabled people and their families out of their disability funding.
So chalk up Conn’s arrest as a win for the good guys. Also, don’t eat at Pizza Hut.
