IDIOTIC BARCELONA PROTESTORS HARASS TOURISTS WITH SQUIRT GUNS OVER THE WEEKEND
I still haven’t been to Barcelona, Spain. By all accounts, it’s a pretty amazing place to visit. It has a lot of history, culture, amazing cuisine- a classic European city. But a few days ago on Saturday, roughly 2,800 demonstrators decided to protest against tourists by spraying them with squirt guns. This gets the same reaction from me that climate protestors do when they douse art with red paint; WTF. Because misguided is the only way I can describe these squirt gun tourist protestors. Barcelona may be a nice place to visit (or it was, anyway), but it’s not the greatest place to live. In a civic sense, the city is broke. Sure! Let’s drive out all that tourism money!

SQUIRT GUN PROTESTORS SEEM TO BE ATTACKING THE GOLDEN GOOSE THAT BARELY FEEDS THEM
So this is essentially stupid, self-defeatist bullshit. The squirt gun anti-tourist idiots targeted anyone wearing a fanny pack or holding a selfie stick. You know, easily identifiable tourists? They also chanted in large groups, “tourists go home!” This incredibly stupid idea was organized by over 100 Spanish organizations under the auspices of Assemblea de Barris pel Decreixement Turístic (which in Catalan stands for “Neighborhood Assembly for Tourism Degrowth”). But what about the fact that locally, Barcelona has screwed itself royally in terms of economic policy for years? Now squirt gun anti-tourist idiots want to make it even worse.

BARCELONA HAS LONG-TERM HISTORIC MISMANAGEMENT, AND SQUIRT GUN IDIOTS WILL MAKE IT WORSE
In 2023 alone, Barcelona took in €12.75 billion, just from 26 overnight visitors. Sure! Let’s tell ALL those people to not come, and any others after them. With squirt guns and harassing chants. Barcelona has massive debts. It lacks anywhere near enough affordable housing. It has incredibly restrictive zoning laws (making more housing impossible). Then there’s how it’s public services can barely make muster. And it doesn’t invest in infrastructure, except for an open pocket for a when will it ever be finished sportsball stadium. So in other words, Barcelona is barely making by, day to day, week to week, decade to decade. And that’s with nearly 14 billion USD from overnight tourists alone.
Sure! Let’s get a couple thousand people out there to harass them darn tourists with squirt guns!
