PHONES RINGING IN RECTUM, RECIPE FOR DISASTER
So prisons can be very quirky places when it comes to weirdness. Prisoners and inmates end up smuggling things however they can. Unfortunately, that often means shoving things up their butts, or rectums as it were. But your rectum is also a good hiding place when there’s just nowhere else. For one inmate in the Welikade Maximum prison in Sri Lanka, his rectal hiding arrangement didn’t work out too well. Prison guards busted him when the cell phone up his butt was ringing. Don’t let your fingers do the walking….
INMATE SHOVED CELLPHONE, TWO HEADSETS UP RECTUM
The inmate, who officials have only identified as one 58-year-old G. Siripala, panicked when he was using his smuggled cell phone. Guards suddenly arrived in his cell for a surprise search for drugs, contraband and weapons. So he shoved the cell phone up his ass as the only available hiding place. Well, he also shoved two headsets in there as well on the fly. The trouble is that Siripala didn’t remember to turn the cell to vibrate. The person he had been speaking with called him back! Of course, that’s a normal thing to do when you get disconnected. But it got Siripala busted as the guards could hear the phone ringing from his rectum.

The guards immediately took Siripala to the hospital. Doctors there took an x-ray and, well, what they saw was pretty easily identifiable as a cellphone and hands-free head sets. The inmate explained what he had done and the doctors removed the objects from his butt. Siripala spent two days at the hospital before authorities took him back to prison. Prison authorities told media that the prison is installing body and parcel scanners to stop the cell phone smuggling. But for now, they have installed a cellphone signal blocker to deter illicit cell phone use.
CONTRABAND LIKE CELL PHONES MAJOR SOURCE OF TENSION
The Welikade prison has to take these kinds of problems very seriously. Last November, 27 inmates died during a prison revolt. The revolt was the result of the military going in for a surprise search. The prison generally houses about 4,500 inmates.
