TEAM BUILDING FIREWALKING EXERCISE SENDS 13 SWISS PARTICIPANTS TO HOSPITAL WITH SEVERE BURNS
Have you ever done a team building exercise? They are pretty cliché, if you ask me. But, cliché notwithstanding, they can have value helping groups of people become more of a team. Hence, the building. But I remember doing the trust drop years and years ago, and let’s just say it was with the wrong group, or team. I didn’t have, nor should I have had, much trust. And no solidarity. But one group of people in Switzerland have the wrong kind of solidarity, after their firewalking team building exercise sent 13 of them to the hospital.

FIREWALKING LOOKS DANGEROUS, BUT IS USUALLY SAFE, SO WHAT HAPPENED TO THESE 13 PEOPLE?
But I’ve actually met a few people who have done firewalking. And while none of them swore by it, they thought it was fun. Kind of like the people who thought it was fun to go skydiving, but never (ever) went a second time. As you can see in the picture, you are walking barefoot across a bed of hot coals. Yes, it’s nuts. And yes, it seems stupid. But how many Jackass movies are there? And while I’ve never seen any of those, I would actually like to try firewalking. Just not with these idiots in Switzerland.

WHILE FIREWALKING, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS WALK QUICKLY AND LIGHTLY TO AVOID BURNS
And no, I’m not nuts. You just have to do it right. You walk quickly and evenly and you don’t get burned. It’s really simple. Yes, these are hot coals you are walking on. But they have a coating of embers on top that aren’t good at conducting heat. Hence, insulation. If you walk gently and quickly, of course. So far, we don’t know what went wrong just south of Zurich. But wrong it went to the tune of the lucky 13 who went to the hospital with severe injuries. What the hell were they doing, the Limbo?
Obviously, there will be an investigation.
