TEXAS GOES ALL IN FOR GUNS, PASS BILL FOR NO LICENSES, NO BACKGROUND CHECKS
So, um, wow? I’m surprised and really shouldn’t be. This past weekend there were multiple shooting deaths from multiple shootings across the United States. None of them related to each other. Why? Well, because people have guns. And, well, they are using them to kill people. But mostly people have guns who shouldn’t, because we won’t pass laws to stop them. And Texas has just shocked the hell out of me by passing a bill that allows people there to buy guns with no license or background check. Because Freedooooom! Well, or something like that.

EVEN THOUGH ALMOST EVERYONE AGAINST GUNS FOR EVERYONE, TEXAS GOVERNOR TO SIGN
But not even background checks? But here’s the thing that keeps staying weird in the United States. Every time we’ve had a new state law making easier to buy guns, some interesting folks are against it. And it doesn’t matter at all. That state of play is what happened in Texas, too. Gun safety groups (or people who love guns, but safely), police (like, the people who have to deal with shootings) and the majority of the people in Texas didn’t want this bill to become law. But Texas Governor Greg Abbott has said he plans to sign it into law. But no licenses? No background checks?

WHY NO GUNS WITH NO LICENSES OR BACKGROUND CHECKS? POLITICS AND MONEY OF COURSE
It’s almost like certain people in politics, like Abbott, want to make sure people can buy as many guns as they can before someone actually does something at the federal level. As in, a national law about who can buy a gun and what process they have to go thru to qualify. Or, another way of putting it, someone wants to make sure that gun manufacturing companies make as much money as they can, like now. Lest we forget, it was only two years ago that El-Paso and Midland Odessa had mass shootings that killed 30 people. Right now, Texans have to submit fingerprints, get training and pass both a written and shooting test to qualify. But not for much longer.
Seriously, it’s easier to buy a gun than it is to get a job anywhere. What is wrong with background checks and licenses? You have one to drive. What’s wrong with a gun license?
