REPUBLICAN REP MIKE GALLAGHER CALLS TIKTOK DIGITAL FENTANYL, WANTS NATIONAL BAN
Well, this is a little out of left field. And yes, that is a political pun. Rep. Mike Gallagher is a Republican Congressman representing the people of Wisconsin. He has a fife in his belly about the social media platform TikTok. Yesterday, he renewed his strong calls to ban TikTok across all of the United States. You may have heard that earlier this month, Gallagher and Sen. Marco Rubio introduced legislation that would do just that. I don’t use the social media platform, myself. But then again I’m over the age of 40. But Gallagher thinks it’s dangerous for American kids, and calls it Digital Fentanyl.

WHY DIGITAL FENTANYL? BECAUSE TIKTOK IS GEARED TO ADDICT AMERICAN CHILDREN
Now, I’m all for recognizing how social media is addicting. But then again, I’m over 40 years old, and remember back when some families thought it was a good idea to minimize how much tv kids watched years ago. You know, because it’s not good for you? And that was just TV media. Back when there were only 3 networks and some local stations, depending on where you lived. The reality is, all media is addicting, and all social media is geared to be…. Addicting. The more time you spend on them, the more ads they make money feeding into your brains. And kids have always been the most important ad campaign targets.

FACEBOOK IS ALSO A THREAT, BUT TIKTOK IS ALLEGEDLY CONTROLLED BY CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY
So why the sudden concern about TikTok, and not Facebook? I don’t recall TikTok bending over backwards to not offend conservatives before our last national election. Shoot, I don’t remember little videos paid for by Russian operatives propagandizing older white people against LGBTQ, minorities or immigrants, either. So why target TikTok as digital fentanyl? Because Gallagher and Rubio say that TikTok is addicting our kids like digital fentanyl as a Chinese Communist Party plot! Really. But they very well may be right. And it’s safe to say that it is also true of Facebook, Fox News, OAN, and all too soon Twitter as well. But let’s only protect our media consumption from Chinese interests?
