OUT OF CONTROL TOURISTS GET A BAN FOR ALL TOURISTS IN JAPAN’S GEISHA DISTRICT
I’ve always wanted to visit Japan. There’s just so much to see there, so much culture to learn about in person. Let’s face it, watching a period Tom Cruise movie or even the newest Shogun series won’t quite be the same. But being a tourist comes with normal, basic responsibilities. Mostly, not being an utter doosh. But Japan has just banned out of control tourists from the Geisha District, in Kyoto. Well, not just out of control tourists. Tourists in general. Because too many of them were out of control. It’s like tourons posing for selfies with wildlife, except here it’s actual people and cultural respect.

TOURON’S HAVE BEEN ACTING INCREDIBLY BADLY WITH NO RESPECT IN GEISHA DISTRICT
Or lack thereof, it seems. The Geisha District is where geisha work and train to be, well, geisha. It’s an area in Kyoto’s Gion District, mostly comprised of narrow backstreets. The ban takes effect in just a few weeks, starting in April. It seems that tourons (morons as tourists) have been physically harassing and taking pictures without permission. I never thought I’d write that Bison and elk would have anything familiar with…. geisha. These idiot tourists have been touching geisha, pulling on their kimonos, getting in their way to stop them, demanding they pose for pictures, and even flicking cigarette ash on them.

ONE TOURON EVEN THREW MONEY AND A ROOM KEY AT A GEISHA IN THE STREET
Idiot tourists have also entered private property to take pictures, or touching the traditional lanterns hanging outside. One particularly ugly tourist threw $10,000 and a key to their room at one geisha! So now, the ban has to come into play to protect people who live, work and train to be geisha in the Geisha District. It seems rules and basic respect are too much to ask for these days, anywhere. I can’t help but wonder if the elk and bison would be jealous. I guess we’ll find out soon in Yellowstone if they need to ban tourists there, too.
