TRUMP KEEPS MAKING COMMENTS OF HIS NAZI APPRECIATION, PUTTING THE ONUS ON ALL REPUBLICANS
Obviously, the national election for President of the United States is happening soon. So almost no one anywhere who cares (and for many who also try not to, not one bit) could possibly be surprised at the uptick in antics, inflammatory soundbites, and general partisanship. That goes for candidates, fans, voters, pundits, celebrities and media personalities of all types. But with Donald Trump running again, things are even more incendiary and inflammatory. And while it’s not even slightly new that Trump follows the Republican (and sometimes Democrat) tradition of racial dog whistles, Nazi appreciation should still be permanently off the menu for normalization. And yet Trump keeps injecting Nazi appreciation into the fold.

NAZI APPRECIATION IS A CLARION CALL FOR WHITE SUPREMACISTS AND ALL RACISTS TO FEEL EMPOWERED
Nazism isn’t normal. The Holocaust wasn’t some flash in the pan bad thing that happened; it’s a historic reference of what can never be allowed to happen again, to any race, creed, gender or sexual orientation group. But Trump’s latest foray included how he wished he had generals like Hitler’s. Oh, and he just had to say that Hitler did “some good things.” Unfortunately for us all, the white supremacist movement has gained a lot of followers and motivation since Trump gained constant unfiltered access to the media. And racists in general everywhere feel more justified in being… racists. So adding more Nazi appreciation to the fold will do more damage to the social fabric in the United States, as well as across the world.

SOME REPUBLICANS DEFEND NAZI APPRECIATION, OTHERS TRY TO CONFUSE THE ISSUE
And the fact that we are so close to the election has Republicans trying to defend Trump and his comments of Nazi appreciation. And conservative media types are trying to muddy the water in ridiculous fashion, with one Fox News host saying maybe Trump didn’t realize Hitler’s generals were Nazis. It’s hard to overstate how stupid the establishment must feel voters to be, and to some degree that’s fair, considering some of the polls we’ve seen recently that don’t even include Americans belief in the world being flat. But Trump engaging in Nazi appreciation, while that makes him ugly, it highlights just how ugly our country can be by treating the comments with anything except condemnation.
If we’re not careful we could easily be a nation of the condemned.
