WAS THE TRUMP TARIFF REVERSAL REALLY JUST AN INSIDER TRADING SCAM?
So you likely heard about Trump totally putting a freeze, or really a reversal on all his tariff threats the other day. Well, with the exception of China, of course, which has been publicly stiff-arming Trump with trade threats of their own in return. But Trump’s announcement was met with market buying glee, jumping $4.7 trillion in less than an hour. When I saw that I totally wished I had an idea beforehand, ‘cause I would have made out like a bandit. But it turns out that some folks did, to great degree. How did they know? Was Trump part of a major insider trading scam?

But let’s be honest. Even if you’re a Trump fan, you likely think the same damn condemning answer as his critics. Because the timing was, and is, more than casually interesting. Interesting meaning, of course, compelling in a legal sense. Because just ten minutes before Trump announced he was slashing tariffs to 10% for everyone except China, SPY call options jumped more than TEN TIMES their normal trading volume. SPY call options are literal bets that the market will…. go up. So for some reason and somehow, someone(s) knew that it was a GREAT time to get some free money. But how did they know?

The saying goes: where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And there is enough smoke here that some folks want to blame Canada for investment wildfires. So far, Senator Schiff and Senator Gallego are demanding an investigation into who knew, what they knew, and when they knew. Oh, and how they knew might be helpful, too. It’s a sad tale, especially as pretty much every sucker in America knows something smells rotten, here. But it’s even sadder that I, you and that idiot who bought a bridge think this is normal fare these days.
