UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN FIRES CHANCELLOR AFTER HIS SIDE PORN WORK EXPOSED

Hello Wisconsin! I must say that this scandal just may keep on giving for some time to come. And what a random scandal it is. Joe Gow was better known for his role as, and job in, a Chancellor at the University of Wisconsin. That’s fairly pedestrian as jobs go in Higher Education, though Chancellor is a fairly prominent and public role. But then the school’s board of regents learned that Gow had a side job, and the kind that needed to stay completely under the table: working in porn. That’s not the sort of thing that major university tend to want to be known for when it comes to their, ahem, staff.

So the University of Wisconsin fired Gow, effective immediately. But Gow isn’t taking his firing lying down. He says that he was fired with no explanation for which policy or policies he violated with his “other” work, and had no opportunity to defend himself. And yes, that means Gow may soon be suing his former employer for violating his free speech and wrongful termination. He said, “My wife and I live in a country where we have a First Amendment. We’re dealing with consensual adult sexuality. The regents are overreacting. They’re certainly not adhering to their own commitment to free speech or the First Amendment.”

ANOTHER WRINKLE FOR WISCONSIN IS THE FACT THAT FIRED CHANCELLOR HAS TENURE

And yes, that mention of his wife means that the porn he was in involved his wife. They produced and appeared in it together. But there’s more, of course. Gow also has a YouTube cooking channel called “Sexy Healthy Cooking.” They cook food with top adult porn stars as guests. But here’s the catch, and one reason (besides a possible lawsuit) that this scandal is nowhere near over: Gow has tenure! But Wisconsin isn’t ready for his other, published works under pseudonyms: “Monogamy with Benefits: How Porn Enriches Our Relationship” and “Married with Benefits — Our Real-Life Adult Industry Adventures.”
